What is the maximum transmission range of DwarfConnection video systems?
Depending on which model you choose, the maximum transmission range is between 150 and 1200m and can be extended using our external MIMO-antenna RE2:
ULR1 1200m (extendable to 2500m)
LR2 700m (extendable to 1500m)
CLR1 300m (not extendable)
Can the maximum range of the CLR2 be extended using the external MIMO antenna RE2?
The C in CLR stands for compact. There are no external antennas on the CLR receiver which makes it small and handy. As a result it is not possible to attach it to the external antenna to extend the maximum range.
If you want to increase the range of you CLR2 you can combine it with the additional receiver X.LINK L1.
What is the DC Scan?
The DC-SCAN is a frequency scanner combined with an antenna signal scanner. It can be monitored over the HDMI port. Using the DC-Scan you can check the traffic on different frequencies. Thanks to AFM (Active Frequency Management) you can manually choose what frequency the DwarfConnection video transmitter will use. Frequency scanner and wireless video work alternately.
Why is DwarfConnection video transmission so stable?
In order to provide the highest stability possible, DwarfConnection video transmission does not use DFS but AFM (Active Frequency Management). This means that the operator himself chooses the proper frequency.
What is DFS?
DFS stands for Dynamic Frequency Selection. Transmission systems using DFS automatically change frequency whenever a signal with higher priority using the same frequency is detected. In real life this leads to interruptions due to pairing processes. DwarfConnection does not use DFS but AFC (Active Frequency Control) in order to provide the highest stability possible.
Is DFS used in DwarfConnection video transmission systems?
DwarfConnection video transmission systems do not use DFS but AFM (Active Frequency Management). The operator himself chooses the proper frequency of transmission. That is what makes them so stable.
Why is WHDI used in DwarfConnection video transmission systems?
WHDI is easy to use, has a low latency, is relatively cheap and ensures high image quality because of uncompressed video transmission.
WHDI works with reflections, so you might face some difficulties when using it in crowded places as a result of the humidity created by people. High numbers of mobile devices may create wireless noise which interferes with the signal.
To get the most out of your DwarfConnection wireless video system, please follow the instructions in our WHDI tutorial. Here is a short version:
- Make sure the position of your antennas is the same as shown on the back of your transmitter and receiver.
- Keep transmitter and receiver parallel to each other and at a similar height.
- Avoid environments that contain obstacles like walls or steel constructions as well as water.
- Use the DC-Scan to choose a frequency with little traffic around and stick to it thanks to DwarfConnection's Active Frequency Management (AFM).
Can the fans be controlled manually?
Yes. In addition to SFC-mode (Smart Fan Control), in which the fans run automatically only when not recording, you can also choose to turn the fans on and off manually.
Can the on screen display be turned off?
Yes. This may be necessary for some live production situations.
Is start-stop function supported?
Yes. DwarfConnection wireless systems support start-stop on SDI as well as HDMI.
When using multiple DwarfConnection receivers, can time code be sent to all of them?

What about delays?
When working with DwarfConnection wireless video transmission systems, delay is less than 1ms - practically nonexistent.
What transmission band is used by DwarfConnection video transmission systems?
All DwarfConnection wireless video systems transmit on the 5GHz-ISM band.
Can I purchase the DwarfConnection receivers/transmitters individually or do I have to buy the whole set?
The X.LINK family of additional receivers can be purchased separately and can be combined with all current wireless transmitters as well as its predecessors CLR1 and LR1. This allows any combination of short-range and long-range products to be combined according to your needs.

Can I purchase a single antenna?
Yes. Because we know that sometimes all you need is one antenna.
Does a DwarfConnection video transmission set include spare parts?
Every DwarfConnection wireless video set includes spare antennas (one for the CLR, two for the LR and ULR).
Can DwarfConnection transmitters and receivers be run by battery?
Yes. DwarfConnection wants to give you as much freedom as possible. That is why our sets come with two D-Tap cables to attach whatever battery you choose to work with. If you prefer to use an MPF battery plate it can be ordered separately and mounted easily.
How long is the battery life?

Are the LR and the ULR systems compatible?

Are DwarfConnection video transmission systems compatible with products of other manufacturers?
Although we have heard of some devices that worked well with the first generation of our product range, DwarfConnection has no confirmed information about this and therefore cannot give any guarantee that wireless systems produced by other manufacturers are compatible with the DwarfConnection wireless video systems.
What is the difference between the LR, the ULR and the CLR system?
DwarfConnection decided to maintain similar technical specifications across all models, thereby ensuring highest standards of quality and usability no matter what model is used. The only difference between the LR (long-range) and the ULR (ultra long-range) systems is their transmission range.
The C in CLR stands for compact. There are no external antennas on the CLR receiver which makes it small and compact. It is therefore not possible to attach an external antenna to extend the maximum transmission range. Unlike the LR and ULR systems, the transmission power of the CLR cannot be reduced.
Can antennas of other manufacturers be installed on DwarfConnection products?
Can multiple DwarfConnection video transmitters be used simultaniously?
Yes, you can use up to four transmitters at the same time.
Is there a minimum distance required?
If the distance between transmitter and receiver is too short, artefacts might occur. To solve this problem, remove the receiver's second antenna.
Are there still spare parts available for the LR1 and CLR1?
Yes. If you face any technical problems with your LR1 or ULR1 systems talk to your reseller of choice to figure out what can be done to get you back on track.

How do I find the DC-Scan on my DwarfConnection receiver?
To enter the DC-Scan, press and hold "-" for 3 seconds. The frequency scanner is only available on your HDMI output. To switch DC-Scan off, press and hold "-" again.
How can I check if the antennas on my DwarfConnection receiver are working?
You can check your antennas in DC-Scan. Press and hold "-" for 3 seconds. Then choose channel 0. The colour of the antennas displayed on your screen should be green.
